Gail R. Wilensky, Ph.D., is an economist and senior fellow at Project HOPE, an international health foundation. Her expertise is in strategies to reform healthcare in the United States, and she possesses unique expertise on Medicare, comparative effectiveness research, and military healthcare. Before joining Project HOPE, Ms. Wilensky directed the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and served in the White House as a Senior Advisor to President George H. W. Bush on health and welfare issues. Ms. Wilensky was also the first Chair of the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission. Ms. Wilensky earned a B.S. in Psychology and a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Michigan, and has received several honorary degrees. She currently serves as co-chair of MITRE’s Health Advisory Committee.
