Effective Payment Models

Dr. Mark McClellan, director of the Margolis Center for Health Policy at Duke University, MITRE Senior Visiting Fellow, and co-chair of the Health Care Payment Learning and Action Network, discusses new efforts to improve patient care through more effective payment models.

Through 2013, the U.S. ranked last out of 13 high-income nations in terms of healthcare outcomes for patients, despite dramatically outspending other countries. Currently, experts are looking to alternative payment models to address quality and reduce costs.

MITRE is partnering across government and industry to help transform the healthcare market. MITRE operates the Health Care Payment Learning and Action Network, a public-private partnership committed to a healthcare system that delivers better care, spends dollars more wisely, and results in healthier people. Our work is focused on implementing more effective alternative payment models and sharing leading practices to help organizations successfully adopt new approaches to payment.
